Art, Anthropology and Guatemalan History

These themes prevail in the lecture series, as well as classroom discussions. In essence, it is the center of the school´s curriculum. For instance, with art we could deal with the Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera or the Guatemalan muralist, Carlos Merida.

In anthropolgy we work with the ancient book of the Maya Kíche, the Popol Vuh. The director translated it from K'iche and has the accadenic endorsement of San Carlos University.

Guatemalan history deals with preColombian history then colonial and finally modern times. Therefore the school stresses not only the need to learn Spanish Kiche or Mam, rather the history which transends the learning and perhaps that makes all the difference The history reaches back to the Olmec empire up´to the Colonial Period, until today where an interesting contrast of the ancient and the modern exist in the climate of a developing nation.
